GAINS Program

GAINS Invitation for the 2017-2018 School Year

We would like to invite any and all Buchser girls to join the GAINS network for the 2017-2018 school year. GAINS (Girls Achieving in Non-traditional Subjects) is a special free program offered in our district, where young women will have unique opportunities to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) and other non-traditional career options.

 

Every month, GAINS members can learn from inspiring professional women and can ask them questions about their career paths. In addition, GAINS members participate in events throughout the year including Orientation, Success Camp, College/Career Day, workshops, project-based learning, field trips to college, business and industry, and an End-of-Year Celebration (with families). Extracurricular activities include lectures, tutoring, internships, and job shadows.

 

To apply, please fill out the application here by September 20th. Paper applications are also available in the Attendance Office and in rooms M-107 & M-204.

Deadline for registration has been extended to Friday, 9/23!


There are no fees involved to join GAINS. Attendance is required for all speaker meetings and the district wide Orientation Meeting.  Speaker meetings will take place on early release Thursdays: 10/6/16, 11/3/16, 1/12/16, 2/2/17, 3/2/17, and 4/6/17; location will be in the Library during lunch.

 

IMPORTANT DATES:

  • The first speaker meeting will be on Thursday, 10/6/16.

    • Pizza will be served but please bring your own drink!

    • Please be on time!
       

  • The first field trip will be on Tuesday, 10/11/16, to Oracle to celebrate “International Day of the Girl.”

    • Permission forms will be available starting the week of 9/19/16.

    • Permission forms must be turned in to Mrs.Park, room M204, not emailed or faxed.

    • Space will be limited.
       

  • The district wide Orientation Meeting will be on Wednesday, 10/12/16.  

    • The location of this event is at Peterson Middle School 6:30-7:30 p.m.

    • Please come by 6:15 p.m. to sign-in.
